For the first time a single molecule has been nano-photographed. The better we are at seeing tiny, tiny things the quicker we can make robots out of them.

The Men Who Stare at Goats

Friday, August 28th, 2009

This movie is based on Jon Ronson’s book of the same title. In it Ronson explored the various psychic spying ventures initiated by the CIA and Army during the 1980′s. Recruits were taught skills in remote viewing, psychokinesis, mind reading, and attempting to stop a goat’s heart purely by thought.

Drum Therapy

DrumCeremony

Looks like drum therapy is starting to creep into the main stream. San Francisico is starting to use the practice to help it’s stressed out citizens.  It is not surprising that one of the oldest most primal activities of man just so happens to be therapeutic.

The practice was developed by Sal Nunez, a psychologist and professor at City College of San Francisco who has earned national acclaim for the holistic approach. He holds circles to treat trauma victims, and also hosts them for youths and adults in need of psychological counseling.

Maybe this is the start of a trend where modern culture realizes that tribal culture is not primitive and worthless, but actually very advanced in a direction which western medicine has no substitute.

Oh yeah and I have to give some credit to the hippies they were right on this one.

Burning Man Tech

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Why go to Burning Man? To test your new software of course!

“This year the Burning Man organization is assisting with the launch of an API. With the API you get access to descriptions and locations of the Streets, Art, Camps and Events. When combined with a map this is everything you need for a local city guide. And that is exactly what the iPhone app does (it’s not available in the app store; if you want it head to the Burning Man Earth Camp next to Media Mecca — be nice). It maps all of those entities, will geolocate you and let you mark favorites. You can learn more about the API project here. Burning Man still has its Virtual Playa project online.”

Brainstorming

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Let us welcome the death throes of committee thinking.

“Experiment after experiment has shown that people in brainstorming sessions produce fewer and lower quality ideas than those working alone.”

Enter mind-reading technology, because “electronically mediated brainstormers generate more high quality ideas than face-to-face brainstomers.”
