Scientists at the University of Washington are building contact lenses complete with augmented reality display capabilities. This is basically the same as a Heads Up Display (HUD) as seen in most first person video games.
Augmented Reality provides overlays of information on real world scenarios. It provides the potential for instant environmental information, universal signage, constant mapping, live action gaming, and a host of other amenities that re-inforce holographic reality.
