Darfur Unmasked

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

3-Points, a documentary involving basketball star Tracy McGrady, is a great video to watch for diverse information and perspectives on the genocide occurring in Darfur (Western Sudan).

For those who are unfamiliar with the situation, here is a very brief and very generalized explanation of currently occurring events in Darfur. From 2003 to present, violent and inhumane atrocities have been occurring in Darfur and surrounding areas. Parts of the government have gone rogue and teamed up with mercenaries and local thugs to exterminate portions of their native population. They are doing things like burning whole villages to the ground, killing the men, raping the women, and stealing the livestock. There are more than 2 million displaced Sudanese civilians fleeing on foot (sometimes for hundreds of miles before reaching a refugee camp) in any direction they can. Various charges have been brought upon the president of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, but so far the ICC has been unable to arrest and prosecute.
